Counting Down to 65 in Florida and Starting Medicare with a Plan that Makes Sense

Start With The Basics

Medicare 101 for new enrollees

At 65 you look at Part A and Part B, then decide between Medicare Advantage or Original Medicare with Medigap plans and Part D coverage. I explain each path in normal English and show what it costs at your Parrish pharmacy and your doctors near the Manatee River. If you are already on Social Security, some pieces may start automatically. If not, we file together so timing is right.

Get The Timing Right

When and how to enroll without penalties

Your Initial Enrollment Period is seven months around your 65th birthday. Still working with good employer coverage. We can delay Part B and Part D and use a Special Enrollment later. I keep the forms, the employer letter, and the dates straight so you do not get hit with a lifetime penalty.

Choose Your Route

Original plus Medigap or one card with Advantage

If you want nationwide access and fewer surprises, Medigap with Part D often wins. If you want one card, extras, and can stay in network, Medicare Advantage can fit. We will consider travel to St. Pete or up north, your favorite specialists, and your budget. Then we pick and move on with life.

Avoid Easy Mistakes

Common missteps and how we prevent them

Missing Part B when you lose employer coverage. Keeping HSA contributions after Part A starts. Picking a drug plan that ignores your real meds. I have seen it all in Parrish and Ellenton. We will sidestep the potholes.
